Well we made it back it one piece. The beginning of the trip started off rather eventful. The plane I was supposed to be on got redirected because of bad weather in san francisco so after sitting on the runway for 1hr they had me get off because it was then going to oakland where I would not be able to connect to anywhere. So instead of leaving seattle at 10am I sat in the airport until 4pm. Turned out I got to Lihue about the same time and worked out well because Amy had flight adventures as well and ended up getting my spot out of san fran. So I finally make it to Lihue and what do you know, my bags do not. They do not know when they are going to get in and don't have someone at the alaska counter other than when a plane is coming in so I cannot call to see if they are there are not. They offer to deliver them but we are planning to camp, problem! So the next day we go to the airport 4 times(once in the morning to get amy's bag as well) in hopes of finding my bag. They finally tell me that it will be on the 8:30 flight, we get there to pick it up and what do you know mechanical problems on that flight and it won't be getting in until 2am! Ugh!!! So we head back to our campground (which is 1hr away) and I proceed to sleep on the ground with no sleeping bag, fun. It was so cold! Amy had given me a blanket but it didnt cover my body and I was shivering so bad the we tried to lay a pair of her pants on the ground for insultation. Yeah didnt work too well and I wake up with a bruised hip from the buttons in them. lol. I finally get my bag the next day. Woohoo!
Other than the bag adventures it POURED the first week or so. Not just light rain, super heavy rain all day and night! There were flash flood warnings, bridges closed, and everyone who lives there was saying they had never seen rain like it. Fantastic! Especially when you are planning to camp and hike. We hiked what we could, finally gave up on the north and east sides of the island and headed south to where they say it never rains. What do you know it was pouring!!! We decided to pretend we were guests at the sheraton and use their internet and such. Everyone was asking the help desk what to do in the rain and what do you know, they had zero suggestions. But we did get to see lots of rainbows and got a free mud treatment in our hiking. ;) The end of the trip the rain did finally die down and we were able to get some beach time. We also went to a luau which was cool. No partying for us though, the island seriously shuts down at 8pm! It was crazy! I don't know what the locals do. It was definetaly small town but in the small town I come from there are lots of bars at least! I don't think I have ever gone to bed so early so many nights in a row, especially on vacation. I have pictures to post but am too tired now. I'll post them later.
